That's it -- I think I've had enough. Blogger has been impossible for me lately. I have been virtually unable to publish posts in a timely fashion, and comments haven't been appearing like they should. Blogger is having an impossible time connecting by ftp to my server, and at this point, I can barely publish any new content. I've been thinking for some time that I should migrate out of Blogger, and as of this morning, I've decided I might start the move. I've downloaded Wordpress and will be trying to work with it to launch as smoothly as possible. I will keep my Blogger archive pages online so that links to old posts will not lead to broken links, but, since I've never done this particular transition before, I'm hoping it won't go too badly. Wish me luck, and hopefully next time you guys visit this site, I'll finally be able to post content in a sane fashion.

...okay... so my server is all wierdly configured. for some reason, i can't run any php files from my root directory...

i have drawn my host's attention to this problem but other than that, i'm not too sure what to do.

for sure, until they work this out, there will be no upgrading to wordpress. the blogging gods are mad at me :)

Wordpress is by far the superior blogging software. I kind of wish that everyone used it. Blog RSS feeds + Comment RSS feeds is the real deal :)

Retaining your blogger posts should be no big deal, but the comments are possibly a lost cause. There is an "Import from Blogger" option that seems pretty simple.

Did you set the permissions on those php files from your FTP program? They have to have read/write permissions, I think, though I'm having trouble remembering the number combo for that (677? 666? 777?). Regardless, if your host has decent to middling tech support, they should be able to get you hooked up post-haste.

Unless you want a Blogspot blog, you're going to have to migrate. They posted a notice recently that they're no longer going to be supporting remote hosting.

Good luck with the move. PHP, CHMOD, and SQL oh my!

The WP community has tons of plugins for you when you get everything set up.

Good luck!

Hey David and Eric. Thanks so much for the information on Wordpress. I actually have done the install on another server and domain, and I really enjoyed wordpress, although found their styling/template system to either be unwieldy or have a steep learning curve (I was less familiar with PHP then, but I found it a little annoying that the style elements were hidden all over the place rather than in one cohesive document).

Eric, I will be very excited to check out the plugins. I'm lookingn forward to a "recent comments" think that works.

Elayne -- I hadn't noticed! What a pain!! That was possibly Blogger's only redeeming quality: its flexibility for users who don't have PHP/MYSql support needing their own blogging platform.

Well, as you guys might have noticed, the internal server error has been corrected and hopefully I can begin work on the move within the next few days!

Lol -- as an addendum -- David, you were right! It was a permissions problem!!

I feel silly now... :p

Okay, I really kinda want to shove a screwdriver in my neck. I cannot seem to import any of the Blogger posts into Wordpress.

At this point, I'm about ready to manually import all 500 of my old posts. I'm just that annoyed.

Y'all who have gone through this: any ideas?
