Radical Woman of Color Carnival: 1st Call for Submissions

As if there wasn't enough Carnival-ness in the air. Since the 6th edition of the Carnival of Feminists was hosted here not a day ago, an idea sprung out of Woman of Color Blog to organize a Carnival specifically to showcase and celebrate the identity and experiences of women of colour. Thus, I am hosting the first edition of the Radical Woman of Color Carnival on February 1st. All bloggers, especially women of colour, are invited and encouraged to submit or nominate posts that highlight being a woman of colour and/or issues associated with this collective identity. In particular, this first edition will include a portion to focus on the question "What does the internet mean to a woman of colour?" Some possible topics include:

  • As a woman of colour, when did you begin blogging? Why? What did you hope to accomplish?
  • How is the presence of women of colour online? Are we growing? Shrinking? Where are we? How can this be improved?
  • How has the internet changed any of the communities that you self-identify with?
  • Do women of colour experience particular issues in regard to gaming or MMORPGs?

Along with that, there will be a second portion that is a topic free-for-all, including all posts in the Carnival that do not fit this theme.

Remember, submissions to the Radical Woman of Color Carnival are not limited to women of colour. This Carnival hopes to highlight the issues of women of colour as well as female bloggers of colour, and you do not have to be a person of colour to talk about race issues (just like you don't have to be a woman to be a feminist)! Nonetheless, as I'm sure you all will understand, women of colour will be prioritized in this Carnival.

Deadlines for submissions are: January 30th, midnight, GMT

To nominate or submit posts, you may email them to me at Alternatively, you may copy-and-paste the following code into your blog post:

Happy blogging!

Awesome new carnival. I've added it to my blog roll. Maybe one of these days I'll get off my ass and contribute. I've been wanting to write a post on white privilege and how it's not erased even when whites are a numerical, legal, and cultural minority....
