The People Will Speak

So, nearly a month ago, I ranted about Gong Li having been awarded the dubious honour of being the sexiest thirty-something woman alive (at least according to Esquire). In that post, I said:

...similarly talented Asian men are never recognized for their sexuality. There have been several "Men of Lost" features with the "hunks" of the show, yet Daniel Dae Kim is rarely counted among them, despite being not only extremely attractive, but also playing both a virile and compassionate character on the show.
In the comments of that post, phillyjay commented that several of the women he knew who watch Lost think DDK is pretty good looking, to which I retorted "I *hear* people say that they think DDK is hot, but where is the treatment by the media or all the women gushing publicly?" Well, apparently, I might have to eat my words. People magazine has just unveiled their online poll for the Sexiest Man Alive 2005. DDK is currently in the running -- he is 7th with 5% of the vote. I've got to say, I'm impressed that we are represented. Then, I look at the other 9 candidates. Of all 10 candidates, three are people of colour: one is Daniel Dae Kim, the other two are Antonio Banderas and Kanye West. Of the three people of colour, DDK has eked out a lead, and in fact, all three minority men in the poll have only managed to claw their way past Owen Wilson -- who, on his best days, tends to look like a drunk, toothless wino/pirate who has just had bird poop land in his eye. I'm feeling that all three of our males of colour were thrown in as tokens. And yet, I think it would really sock it to the Man (... did I just say that...?) if DDK beat some of the other white boys in the contest. Wouldn't it just send a great message if Daniel Dae Kim were deemed sexier than Brad Pitt? So, go! Vote! Tell the world that East Asian men are attractive, too. Previous Post: The Beautiful People

I've voted but Daniel Dae Kim is currently only at 6%. :(

(At least he's beating Owen Wilson's 2%.)
