Pat Morita, RIP

Pat Morita, best known for his portrayal of Mr. Miyagi in the Karate Kid franchise, passed away yesterday of natural causes. I always was a little pissed at Morita for the Mr. Miyagi character -- from that character came the perception of so much "Asian voodoo" bullshit. But at the same time, Morita represents the difficulty that exists for Asian American actors who want to break into an all-White Hollywood. It doesn't forgive the endless Asian exoticism introduced by the Miyagi character that later fueled many an Asiaphile's pimply fantasies, but Morita will always have a place in APIA media history, for being one of the ground-breaking firsts.

Hey Miss Jenn...you keeping up with The Apprentice? What do you think of the final two? Some folks are calling for a double hiring. What do you think?
