Fanged Pussy

Thinking about raping someone? Think again. A South African inventor has come up with a new twist on the female condom. Designed as a nasty surprise for would-be rapists and sexual predators, the Rapex condom is designed to be inserted into the vagina like a normal female condom (and offers all the protections thereof), but has barbed "teeth" that sink into the skin of the shaft and get embedded via the sharp barbs. The attacker would not be able to remove the Rapex condom from his penis unless he underwent surgery, thereby also helping to identify rapists. Personally, I think this is a great little invention, although I worry about the problem of escalation. We wear these Rapexes, and the rapists decide to check the vagina before insertion, and remove the trap before inserting his member. Also, a rapist might get so infuriated by having a bear trap on his dick that he'll opt to kill the woman when he might've just been content to rape her. That being said, anything that helps curtail rates of rape and sexual violence is fine by me. Now, let's just see if these little devices are cheap enough to help the women who really need them. I think something that identifies the rapist is a good idea, however there are lots of potential problems with this device: escalation (like you said), alternative methods of violence (like b said), and the vast potential for victim blaming to name a few.

In reference to the last one, think about the implications in a society that has universal access to this technology of women who are raped when not wearing one. Suddenly, if a woman doesn't have this inserted into her vagina 24/7, then obviously she consented to have sex with the man. BS like that happens all the time in America - she was wearing a short skirt, she was a slut, she didn't fight back hard enough, etc.

In a culture of rape (which, sadly, most societies on this planet are), bringing in another tool that places the onus on women rather than on the rapists has a good chance of being misued. I don't know enough about South African culture to even begin to solve the rape problem there (hell, I don't know enough to begin solving the rape problem here); maybe this device is the only available option at current, maybe by identifying more rapists the underlying problems of rape will be brought to light, or maybe all of our fears will be realized and worse. I don't know, and I guess only time will tell, but I think it's valuable not only to discuss the positive aspects but also all the negative ones.

I like this idea. Having already been a victim, I would prefer a device that cannot be removed from a dick. Make it removable only when the dick is severed. That's good enough for a rapist. And, make it incredibly painful, too. People have no idea how much devastation a rape does to a person, but this is a good start to treat a rapist with the disrespect he deserves.
